Preparing for the Holidays with MailChimp

Posted by Veronica Postolski on November 03, 2017

With the winter holidays well on their way, it's time to starting thinking about the vacations and breaks that are fast approaching. As the owner of a pet care business, these are the busiest and most hectic times of the year for you and your employees, so it's important to get ahead of the game and start planning as soon as possible.

One of the best things you can do is reach out to clients who have booked for these holidays in previous years because chances are they will likely be away on vacation or visiting family again this year. Remind them that you are taking reservations in advance and that they should act soon to ensure that their beloved furry friend has top-notch care with you while they are away. By doing this, you can maximize your bookings during any holiday season.

However, figuring out who reserved a spot at your facility in the last few years and reaching out to them one by one can be time-consuming and tedious. You just don’t have the time to spend hours on the computer searching through hundreds - if not thousands - of client records, figuring out who stayed with you during previous holidays. However, thanks to ProPet’s MailChimp integration, getting in touch with these clients is easier than ever!

Behind the scenes, ProPet creates a master list in MailChimp of all the customers added to your ProPet account and continues to do so every time a new customer is added. With your customers' emails automatically imported into your account, you can easily create attractive email marketing campaigns in MailChimp and then use ProPet to find customers who have previously booked with you within any specific time period. For example, you can choose to target clients who had reservations at your facility between December 20, 2016, and January 2, 2017.

Creating and Analyzing MailChimp Campaigns

When creating an email campaign in MailChimp, you can use one of the provided templates or code your own. Be sure that the email is appealing and to the point. Your customers do not want to spend the time reading a long block of text. Additionally, blurry cell phone pictures will not do the trick, so try using high-quality images to spruce up your email. Be sure to link to your website and of course your ProPet booking portal so your customers can conveniently request reservations online!

If you want to know how well your email campaign performed, you can check the reports section in your MailChimp account. By keeping track of the analytics, such as how many clients opened the email or clicked on a link, you can gauge what’s working and what’s not. Using this information can help you tailor future campaigns to be more successful.

Why is this information valuable? Once you know what works best for your email campaigns, you can fine tune them to be as effective as possible. Maybe your subject lines are not attention grabbing? Or maybe the content in your emails is too dense? There are various factors that you will need to take into consideration.

Settings goals and objectives will help you navigate your way through the highs and lows of using email campaigns to communicate with clients and market your business to increase revenue. Objectives are stepping stones you lay out for yourself to gauge how far you have come and how much further you would like to go.

Example of some goals you might set could be:

  • To have x number of opens
  • To have x number of website link clicks
  • To have x number of bookings created from the email campaign

Be sure to make your objectives realistic and obtainable. For every goal you reach, the more motivated you will be to achieve the next one, thus improving your campaigns and the ways which you maintain a line of communication with your clients.

Now that you know the best ways to run a successful email campaign using ProPet and MailChimp, you are ready to get started and create your first campaign. And remember it's never too early to plan for the future! Keep in mind that your first campaign may not be as successful as you planned, but don't get discouraged. Perfecting email marketing takes times and requires nurturing and consistency. Be sure to check your analytics and tweak your campaigns as needed. Having attractive and eye-catching email campaigns can go a long way to market your outstanding pet business.
