The ProPet Photography Blog: Introduction

Posted by Nick Galipeau on November 23, 2018

There’s nothing more enjoyable than taking pictures of your furry friends, but it can be really frustrating when your photos don’t quite turn out the way you expect.

Are your images too dark? Are speedy pets nothing but a blurry smudge? Is the lighting perfect but everything is out of focus? Ugh, we’ve all been there, maybe even more often than we’d like to admit. But no need to worry, that’s why we have the ProPet Photography Blog!

What will we learn?

Here you will find all the information you’ve ever wanted about pet photography. You’ll learn some new tricks and hone old skills while having a brand new excuse to get outside and spend some quality time with your lovely pet. This blog will serve as an ongoing guide and resource for pet photographers and animal lovers alike. We’ll make the most of whatever camera you’re using; cell phones or DSLR’s, all are welcome!

Can I really take good photos with my phone?

In photography what camera you’re using really isn’t that important, what is important is who is behind the camera. A good eye for composition goes a lot further than a kit full of expensive equipment. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have specific tools for specific types of photos, and expensive camera gear can make life easier. But in the long run nurturing your own creativity is way more important than saving up to buy that new lens filter or tripod. While we will be discussing equipment from time to time the primary focus of this blog is getting the best image, in the fewest steps, with the least amount of gear.

Phone Cameras are Great for Capturing Spontaneous Moments

The best images are the ones that capture moments as they’re happening, unfortunately in the middle of these opportune moments we don’t always have our professional DSLR handy (that is, if we have a DSLR at all). But can you remember the last time you heard someone say, “Ugh, I wish I had my camera with me.” Yeah, me neither. Everyone, wherever they may be, has a high quality digital camera in their pocket at all times, but learning how to use it to its full potential might be easier than you think. Much like a DSLR, phone cameras still follow the same principles of photography, and they are a very easy and affordable way to learn the basics. Unlike a DSLR, the camera on your phone is small, easy to carry around and convenient, so you’ll never need to think twice about bringing it with you when you leave the house.

This is why cell phone photography is so important and why phone cameras have changed the way we take photos, and remember our most important moments. We will spend a lot of time talking about phone cameras and their versatility, expanding on a range of techniques that you can use when working with the limitations of a cell phone, and we’ll even touch on why these limitations are, in many ways, advantages.
